TRANSITIONS
Transitions emerges from several other series.
In a kind of retrospective documentation of my work in recent years since 1996, I offer this exhibition as an aesthetic mapping of cultural relocation.
This experience is a journey from memory to forgetfulness, a battle between past and present. My juxtaposition of images and narratives also embodies the transition through which our civilization is passing.
Such a fussion of memories and seemingly nostalgic symbols collage into a thick visual discourse which, like daily life, contains numerous layers of meaning.
This discourse may be compared to a semiotic filo pastry. It is constructed with fragments of my mother's letters reproduced in their original calligraphy, fragments of ceramic tile designs as emblems of Havana, and pieces of ordinary objects as tokens of previous life experiences.
Finally, the Nature of Nature series, named after Edgar Morin's essay of the same title, is a project currently in progress that aims to celebrate the esence of Nature. Its essence corresponds with art in its beauty. I contrast this beauty by painting abstract expressionist gestures and combining them with the splendor of Nature's shape and colour, so wisely organized in plants and animals.
